Winter Issue

June 2017

Welcome to the Winter Edition of the Cambridge Private Wealth Newsletter.

As a (former) Queenslander, it is always around this time I have some regrets about moving to Melbourne. My refusal to wear UGG boots, a beanie or scarf with the knowledge I am bald as a badger does not stand me in good stead for Winter at all.

Regarding the recent events, I speak to many clients, and like me, find the current world news quite depressing. Certainly the great experiment of low interest rates has failed to give the masses the promised land that Central Banks around the world hoped for, but playing God for too long does have consequences.

It’s crazy to think that the Japanese Government prints money to buy publicly owned companies on their sharemarket, making them owner of two thirds of the Exchange Traded Fund market in Japan!! Talk about distorting prices! If this process continues most of the Japanese corporations will become Government owned in a few years! So much for capitalism.

At the end of the day, despite the news, the world moves forward and the things that make me smile and retain happiness (despite my hard exterior) are the same things as they were last year and prior.

Always welcome any calls of enquiry. Stay safe and happy in the meantime.

Sincerely,

Anthony Walker
Principal Adviser
